Musicians have been utilizing audio samplers for decades, employing MIDI keyboards and sequencers to trigger drum sounds, pianos, and a wide array of other instruments. SmashCut introduces a similar functionality to video content.
Users can import any video from their camera roll, easily set cue points within the video, and explore a new way of working with video. The application is responsive to MIDI note messages for navigating to cue points and controlling playback start and stop. Through MIDI CC messages, users can dynamically scale, rotate, and transform the video content in a live and interactive manner. Moreover, even without a MIDI keyboard, all app features are accessible via the built-in MIDI controller on another iOS device.
SmashCut offers diverse possibilities. It can facilitate seamless play and pause actions in presentations using video, enabling smooth transitions between different cue points. For video streaming or podcasting endeavors, SmashCut streamlines cueing to video clips with simplicity. The iPad version of the app is compatible with Silicon Macs and integrates well with streaming software like OBS.
For bands looking to synchronize video sequences with live performances, SmashCut provides valuable support. Whether creating a music video or experimenting with video editing techniques such as cutting, splicing, and glitching for recreational purposes, SmashCut presents itself as a versatile tool that allows users to treat video editing as an expressive art form akin to music creation.

It is worth mentioning that there is an on-screen watermark that can be removed through an optional in-app purchase.
